Creative Sampling

Introducing the first in a new series of Noisy Daughters workshops for women in music, Creative Sampling - a free class led by Lisa Murphy

Learn to turn everyday objects into music!
A hands-on crash course in sampling your own sounds

  • A brief overview of the sampling and how it is used in music
  • An outline into the music technology setup we will use to capture and edit the samples we make
  • Creating sounds, based on a theme, to develop a piece of music using only sounds created in this session from non-musical items
  • Editing and placing samples to create rhythmic and melodic patterns in music software

This workshop is designed as an introduction to making music through the use of non-traditional musical instruments, i.e. we will record sounds made from any object that we can find in the workshop space, and use this to create a sound, captured as audio and manipulated in music software to create a part for a piece of music which you will create.

All happening on Saturday 7th May, 10:30am - 12:30am, and it's completely free!
For beginner/intermediate level women / those identifying as women in music
Booking is required, and places are highly limited, so get yours booked at the link below

With over 18 years working in the music industry as both a music producer and an educator, Lisa has had the opportunity to work with artists and bands in studios across the UK.  As well as this, with a keen interest in supporting the next generation of music producers into the music industry, she has designed and delivered industry-focused music technology and production courses to students at colleges, universities and in the community.

Lisa is the manager at Blank Studios, a professional music recording and production studio in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and works as a recording, mix engineer and producer both here and at her own studio, Production Room.

Lisa is passionate about projects that address the genre balance of those working in the music industry; she leads an arts council funded project called ‘Women in Music Production’ supporting more women in the northeast to gain knowledge and skills to work in recording and production.
