Bridie Jackson

Jay Moussa-Mann

Described by the Guardian as having a 'remarkable voice ... beautiful yet haunting...', legendary North-East artist BRIDIE JACKSON started writing songs at the age of 3 and never stopped. She enjoys arranging folk versions of 80’s pop classics just as much as singing a capella protest songs. Her favourite songwriter is Loudon Wainwright, but she more frequently gets compared to Feist. She spent her early life soaking up a huge range of different creative stimuli, including the paintings of Stanley Spencer, and the writing of Doris Lessing, Alan Bennet and Dylan Thomas. Undoubtedly, these experiences helped to shape both a love of storytelling and looking for the off kilter, unexpected angle in any given tale. Alongside her work as a performer, Bridie has a deep passion for socially engaged projects, co-created with communities. She is currently developing ‘Docusongs’, where she collects interviews from communities and a range of voices on a shared topic then writes original music inspired by the themes that are unearthed through this process, to create an audio platform for interesting, surprising and perhaps unheard stories. 'Self-deprecating and playful, Jackson moves effortlessly from the personal to the political. Her voice is pure, powerful and hauntingly beautiful' Narc Magazine. www.bridiejackson.com

Poet and playwright BOB BEAGRIE will read an extract from Under Milk Wood, by Dylan Thomas.

Captivating, catchy and emotive - JAY MOUSSA-MANN is a songwriter and filmmaker whose songs have been played on BBC 6 Music on Tom Robinson’s Mixtape, BBC Tees Introducing and featured in Music Crowns, Skope Magazine, NE Volume and NARC Magazine. Her single ‘American Tennessee’ was chosen in the roundup of BBC Introducing Tees Best of 2021 and was in the last 50 semi-finalists for the Road to Nashville International Song Contest, chosen out of 20,305 entries. Jay's latest album is along the theme of 'breaking up with the world' touching on subjects of racism, PTSD and finding new beginnings. Her song 'Contradiction of Existence' was written during a period of dealing with trauma and likening the feeling to being rejected and thrown to the dragons by society, befriending and mastering the beasts and then being feared by society instead - Jay drew on the character of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones while working on the lyrics.

Darlington poet, writer and performer ANN CUTHBERT will read extracts from both A Game of Thrones and A Dance with Dragons, by George RR Martin.
