Mini Mish Mash
In conjunction with Darlington Borough Council we're pleased to announce the return of our exciting family friendly festival Mish Mash!
Its launch event last year was a huge success, attracting crowds to Darlington’s market square to dance away and enjoy a vibrant array of amazing music from around the world, as well as participate in a variety of unique workshops. The energy and atmosphere, combined with a blinding hot summer’s day made it an experience to remember.
This year of course, we won’t be able to run the festival in quite the same way, but determined as ever to present inspiring music to audiences across the region, we’ll be running a “Mini” Mish Mash, a virtual version so you can enjoy it from your own home or (weather permitting) garden this August Bank Holiday Sunday the 30th.
The fest will feature fun workshops that all ages can participate in, plus over three hours of exclusive performances and content from amazing local bands.
15:30 - 16:00: Claire Willmer (Voices of Darlington)
Opening the event will be a singing workshop, in which Claire will host an upbeat, jam packed session with music, movement and songs to keep the whole family entertained!
16:00 - 16:30: Kay Greyson (Workshop)
This will be followed by Newcastle’s rising hip-hop star Kay Greyson, whose original blend of uplifting rap that receives regular plaudits from BBC Introducing and many more. Kay will be running a fun hip-hop workshop, as well as sharing some of her own music.
16:30 - 17:15: The Dead Seat
The first band of the day will be Darlington’s own The Dead Seat performing foot stomping, gospel blues. No stranger to the town’s live music scene the band will have been sorely missed during lockdown, so this is a great opportunity to enjoy a full half hour set from them.
17:15 - 18:00: Andy Lawrenson Trio
Next up is a gypsy jazz group playing plenty of classics reinterpreted with a touch of class and humour, not to mention impressive musicianship, the perfect mellow music for a (hopefully) sunny bank holiday afternoon.
18:00 - 19:00: Los Capitanes
Headlining Mini Mish Mash, this trio have been regulars at the popular Festival of Ingenuity band stage over the last few years and made an appearance at last year's debut Mish Mash Festival. Blending amazing musicianship with their unique humour, Los Capitanes are a Spanish-infused 3-piece band based here in the North of England. What begins as classic flamenco, can suddenly turn into an energetic mash up of Black Eyed Peas, or cheesy 80’s pop, before catapulting into forgotten renaissance dance anthems played with virtuosic skill - the band needs to be heard to be believed!
